Manchester United 'agree deal for Anderson Talisca'

Benfica's Talisca celebrates after equalising on the night against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals on April 13, 2016

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Anderson Talisca from Benfica this summer, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months having scored 16 goals in 31 appearances during a loan spell at Besiktas last season, helping the Turkish outfit to the league title.
Turkish newspaper AMK now claims that Talisca has agreed terms with the Red Devils ahead of a permanent move away from Benfica.
However, the two clubs must also come to an agreement before the transfer can go through, which could prove more problematic due to Benfica's reluctance to lose the Brazil international on a permanent basis.
United are expected to have to pay at least £22m for the attacker, who joined Benfica from Brazilian club Bahia in 2014.
United have already brought in Victor Lindelof from Benfica this summer and are hopeful of now completing a double raid on the Portuguese club.

Tottenham blow as Premier League say they won't be allowed to make Wembley pitch smaller to suit Mauricio Pochettino's style of play

  • Tottenham will play their home games at Wembley stadium next season
  • The north London club have had little success at the national stadium, winning just once in five attempts there last season
  • They wanted to reduce the size of the pitch to replicate the White Hart Lane playing area
  • However Premier League rules mean pitch sizes have to be standardised
Tottenham's plans to reduce the size of the Wembley playing surface have been blocked by the Premier League.
Spurs will play their home matches at the national stadium next season while their new £800million home is built ready for the start of the 2018 - 19 season.
Mauricio Pochettino's side played five times at Wembley last season in Europe and the FA Cup, but only won one of those matches.

Part of their problems at Wembley was put down to the size of the pitch which doesn't suit their high-pressing game; the White Hart Lane surface was the second smallest in the league ahead of Stoke at 100m by 67m, while Wembley's surface is 100m by 69m.
The Premier League introduced rules two years ago to standardise pitches at 100m by 68m. The only pitches that are allowed to be smaller are those in older grounds, like White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge, where there isn't room to extend the pitch outwards.

PITCH SIZE PROBLEMS

- Premier League rules stat that all pitches must fit the minimum criteria of 100m x 68m - subject to some exemptions
- White Hart Lane was granted an exemption to the rules and the pitch dimensions were 100m x 67m
- Wembley's pitch is 100m x 69m
- Spurs had held discussions over whether to request that Wembley's pitch was reduced
- They may be allowed to shrink it to 100m x 68m in line with Premier League rules, but not to the same size as White Hart Lane Because Wembley does have the space to meet the Premier League's minimum requirement for a pitch, Spurs won't be allowed to make the dimensions any smaller, although they could request it is reduced from 69m to 68m, per the league's rules.
According to the Times, it was made clear to Tottenham at a meeting of the Premier League's 20 chairman that they would not be allowed special dispensation to change the size of the pitch.
That could be an issue for Spurs as they seek to improve upon their second-placed finish last season. Pochettino's men secured a record high finish and points haul, but fell short in the title race behind eventual champions Chelsea.
When it is built, the pitch at Tottenham's new stadium will also have to confirm to the pitch size rules.

Result: Serbia Under-21s, Macedonia Under-21s play out entertaining draw

Serbia Under-21s and Macedonia Under-21s have played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, but both nations are now on the brink of elimination from Under-21 Euro 2017.
It appeared as though a late effort from Nikola Gjorgjev had won it for Macedonia, but Uros Djurdjevic's last-minute header got Serbia back on level terms.
The result leaves the teams below both Spain and Portugal in Group B, but one more win for either of those sides will leave both Serbia and Macedonia out of the running for the semi-finals.
Throughout the first half, Serbia looked a class above their opponents but somehow, they remained on level terms after squandering three clear-cut chances in the opening quarter of an hour.
Nemanja Maksimovic was the first player to miss, with his half-volley from eight yards being directed over the crossbar, before Mijat Gacinovic drilled a 20-yard volley over despite having time and space.
Moments later, Marko Grujic glanced a header wide of the post as Macedonia struggled to get out of their own half but on 24 minutes, Serbia finally went in front.
Despite having two penalty appeals turned down, the ball fell to Gacinvoic who found a way past Igor Aleksovski for his third goal for his country.
As half time edged closer, Grujic hit a shot straight at Aleksovski from around the penalty spot, and he was nearly made to pay when Enis Bardhi's free kick forced a save out of Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Macedonia needed to improve after the restart and they did just that as Bardhi forced Milinkovic-Savic into another save from a free kick, but Serbia hit straight back with Gacinovic just missing out on getting a touch to a through-ball.
There was a suggestion that Serbia were starting to deal with what Macedonia had to offer but on 63 minutes, they were gifted a chance to get back on level terms when Andrija Zivkovic handled inside the penalty area.
Bardhi was given responsibility from 12 yards and he made no mistake as he found the corner with a confident effort which left Milinkovic-Savic not needing to dive to his left.
Due to their respective results on Saturday, both nations were in a position where a draw was realistically not enough to give them hope of remaining in the tournament, but neither team threw caution to the wind ahead of the closing stages.
However, with seven minutes remaining, Macedonia completed the turnaround through Gjorgjev, who cut inside onto his right foot before sending a deflected effort past Milinkovic-Savic from 20 yards out.
It did not take long for Serbia to mount a response with Ognjen Ozegovic being denied from close range, but Serbia had their equaliser with a minute of normal time remaining as Djurdevic headed home at the back post.
Moments later, Zivkovic hit the post with a header for Serbia but after missing out by the smallest of margins, it left both nations to contemplate a probable exit from the tournament.
