Dale Earnhardt Jr. was starstruck the time he met Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Junior was asked to have a cameo in the James Bond-inspired music video for Jay-Z’s 2006 hit Show Me What You Got, which was shot in Monaco and also featured Danica Patrick. This week, while a guest on Ryan Blaney’s Glass Case of Emotion podcast, he explained just how starstruck he was when he met the power couple.
On the podcast, Earnhardt said:
“They’re like, ‘Hey, you wanna to be in this?’ Obviously, that’s a yes. We raced at New Hampshire on Sunday, (and) we got on the plane as soon as the race was over, flew over to Monaco, landed there. As soon as we landed, it was time to shoot.
“It was 8 o’clock in the morning there. I’m standing on the side of the street. I walk up. Jay-Z’s leaning up against the wall, and he’s like, ‘Hey man, how’s it going?’ And I’m like, ‘All right, just got here, everything’s cool.’
“Soon as we start our conversation, Beyoncé walks up. She’s been shopping – she’s got shopping bags in her hand – and so I just locked up right then. That was just a little bit too much power at one time. I was OK with Jay-Z, but then she walked up, and it was just like overload. It was insane.”

After shooting the music video, Earnhardt said an intimate group of six to eight people – Jay-Z and Beyoncé included – went out to dinner.
He said the atmosphere was relaxed, calling the couple “super down to Earth” and very easy to talk with. They laughed and joked with each other and had a great time, but even as Junior told this story a decade later, he still sounded a bit awestruck.
“I didn’t expect it to be as easy to communicate with them ‘cause they’re just on another level,” Earnhardt said. “But it was awesome.”
